The pet food has been there all along - it's not like that demand just appeared out of nowhere. Copious amounts of food and food products have been redirected towards fuel production in recent years, so it's not a coincidence that world food stocks in wheat and corn are way down. Poor countries get hit the hardest because their food staples are very basic, like corn. South Africa's food inflation rose 48% in 14 months because corn became really scarce. If your loaf of bread, or corn muffin, or whatever tripled in price, you'd be grumpy too; the poor get hit hardest, even with slight price increases. Since most of the world is substantially less affluent than this continent, it's a no-brainer that ethanol becomes the bad guy. Millions of acres of CRP land are getting plowed under because there is high demand with low supply, and there's money to be made(because of ethanol). Jason
