After what teeborg81 described, the peanuts are dumped into a trailer and taken to a processing facility. The trailers are parked under a shed and hooked to a blower which dries the peanuts until they can be stored. I don't know how they are stored in the warehouse or how the shelling process works. Maybe someone can describe that.
BTW, I've been to Plains, GA, Carter's home. The Carter peanut operation was not very large as peanut facilities go in that area. Interestingly enough, the land around there is red. It appears to be fertile, however.
