Never planted one, don't plant much of anything,BUT: Dropped one in a bucket of paint, it survived. Dropped another in a water tank, took two days to dry it out so it worked. Lost a pager in the woods when I was logging. Destroyed two more pagers from excessive moisture, Carrying them in my shirt pocket, got rained on more than once, after a while they would be sensitive even to heavy perspiration. They would still work but you couldn't read the display. Girlfriend dropped a walkie-talkie in a bucket of the acid cleaner we use for maple sap tubing.
Electronics aren't the only victims, my pocket notebook went into a pan of waste oil one day, I copied the information from it and tossed it.
