Not exactly what you asked but I think you may be able to capture more carbon in the Dakotas with grass than with trees. I don't know about SC SD but in SW ND it is a real pain to get trees to grow. My field windbreaks and shelterbelts have required much cultivation, herbacides and covercrops. However, Russian Olives do grow well, but I expect they will soon be banned. Have you thought about a windmill generating electricity.
