On the lighter side, back in the late fifties, an uncle of mine and a grand uncle had a bout of practical jokes. At a family get-together my uncle sneaked out to my grand-uncle's prized Ford, laid down in the seat and started it, and drove slowly away using his hand on the pedals and steering by watching the mirror. My grand-uncle looked up and saw his car rolling away with no one in it. "Why, why, that car, that car!" he said, and went running after it, my granddad hard on his heels. When they yanked the door open there was my uncle grinning up at them. --Some time later, my uncle was fishing in the river while my grand uncle worked in the next field. Grand uncle found a hole in the field, parked his old M over it and crawled in the hole under the wheel as if he'd been run over. God knows how long he waited for my uncle to finish fishing and pass by, but when he did, there was my grand uncle agonizing like he was dying under the tractor wheel. It must have been too soon after the car incident for my uncle smelled a rat. He walked up and said, "get out from under there you rascal, you ain't hurt any worse than I am".--Those guys are gone now, but the family remembers them with affection and always laugh about their antics.
