I'm more into NASCAR than open-wheel racing, BUT I think it's wonderful that Danica Patrick won! Over in NASCAR, they're fretting because Dale Earnhardt Jr. hasn't won in 70 races; it took Danica 50 races to win her FIRST, so let her have her day in the sun! I think she'll bring more fans--translation: more money--to open wheel racing, as a lot of folks will show up to cheer for and against her...and the sport will be all that much better because of her success.
With Hornish and Montoya and Carpentier and Franchitti all running NASCAR, the odds of Danica Patrick winning the Indy 500 has increased exponentially...not anywhere near a sure thing [ask Lloyd Ruby fans about futility at the Brickyard], but notching that first win in the series should build some confidence in her entire organization.
A.J.'s day has passed; the new generation of racers are coming of age...and one of them just happens to be a woman. Deal with it, A.J. Time marches on.
