When you consider that at one time there were more R model Macks on the road than any other truck, combined with the fact that most Macks outlive their owners, $650 is quite a deal. Getting one road worthy after sitting is quite another, I've seen guys dump $15000 on a yearly safety. Then there is the insurance, and cdl, fuel tax. The last few years it's been easier to lease trucks for harvest, than go through the yearly safety inspection BS. That and when the DOT sees a farm truck on the highway, it's like driving around with a big target on the door. Enough of the negative stuff. One of the easiest trucks to drive ( that I've driven) was a single axle R. It had the Mack 300hp Econodyne and a 10 speed, it's almost scary how you can lug a Mack. With the single axle, pulling and backing a 48' trailer was a snap in tight areas. I say go for it! You'll out pull any powerchoke.
