Thousands of acres of spring wheat get frozen every year in Manitoba, but very rarely does it do any significant damage. Mostly our soil stays cold long enough that there is no advantage to seeding before May 1 unless being the first one done is considered an advantage. In 1999 I seeded wheat on June 20 (too wet) and it still made a decent crop. In 1981 I had wheat in on April 20th.
