My extension is a piece of .25 4"x 4" box tube, plated on both top and bottom, about 8" long. The top plate has two 4" peices of angle iron welded on 2 sides to create a non-slip ledge. Centered on the bottom plate is a 2" peice of 1 5/8 sched 40 pipe that drops into the top of the jack.

That 4x4 is in compression, I think it would take a helluva load to compromise it. But- always remember that ant jack is a temporary lifting device only, and get a jack stand under it pronto!
