In the late fifties and early sixties we did alot of plowing with a JD 70 and JD 60 in tandem. A side frame from an F20 Farmall was used as a reach from the drawbar of the 60 to the drawbar of the 70. A very large (3"?) ball on the 60 drawbar and the 70 drawbar slid ahead just to expose the hole in the end for a bolt. The 70 pedestal was removed and a welded up mount supported the front of the tractor on the reach. The 60(front tractor) hydraulics were used for a 5 bottom pull-type plow. Throttle and clutch were operated by pushrods that went from the front of the 70 to the appropriate control. The tractors operated quite well one gear apart, and were quite easy to syncronize. You did need to throttle the rear tractor down a bit in a sharp turn situation. Both tractors and the hitch setup still exist on the farm, but have not been used in tandem since probably around 1965.
