Dont keep chickens but we have mice problems. Cat loves them and brings them home to play with. We have had good luck with glue traps and also the box type traps you have to empty. The bet thing around a farm is a couple of b;lack snakes . Thet keep tha area almostr critter free. I would never have poison around if you have any family pets. We think of our animals as family members. Out in the shed we have installed several large electronic ( i know) pest eliminators and they work great.
