We are going to have to think out of the box as to how we get back and forth to work. Toyota sells a plug in hybrid elsewhere in the world, but not in the US. Who knows why. GM has developed a plug in Saturn and hopefully will be selling it in the next couple of years. The plug in version of the Toyota Prius can go about 40 miles and then switches to gasoline. Most commutes are under 40 miles. If enough of these things can make it to market and get the price affordable, we could start to make a dent in gasoline consumption. Google 'Phoenix electric car', 'Cheverolet Volt', and 'plug in hybrid' and you can get an idea of what we could accomplish if we put minds to it.
