The John Deere board should lead you to the specs if your local Deere dealer can't. The Delco distributor on our Massey 50 did not have springs in it when we first got it. I wound up going to an auto parts store and buying a cheap distributor spring kit such as the hot rodders used use to change their distributor advance curves. I tried a few, checking the advance with a timing light until it was about right. Made a heck of a difference in starting, idling and power.
