My girls can tell from across the yard if I'm carrying the square green swill pail with kitchen scraps. And they ambush me on the run or on wing before getting 1/2 way to the shed. they will try to rost on the side of the pail and reach in. Didn't know mushy tomatoes were such a treat?
Carry the white feed grain pail and they will only walk over to peck feed off the top if they can get a chance.
Walk across the yard carrying anything else and while they notice they don't care.
If the kids miss filling the feeder. The birds will walk over to the house and look for somebody to hang around underfoot until we get the idea.
When ever I find a nest of young mice or rats they get tossed into the chicken or duck pen. That's probably the finest delicasy of all. The birds will even chase a 1/2 grown rat across the pen an try to catch it. Watched a Rhode island Red hen swallow a full grown mouse, didn't know they could do that.
