If you have a hole anywhere in the tube, it will leak out at the stem hole, so are you sure the stem it self is leaking?
I've seen stem repair patchs that replace the stem and seal a 4" area. Try Gemplers.com but I think there just as expensive as a new tube, about $30. You can also take a normal large patch and cut a hole in the center for a hole close to the stem.
It's not hard at all to change a tire or tube with the wheel on the tractor. I've done it a few times and I'm crippled up.
I use a wood splitting wedge(dull) to break the bead with a single jack. Just place the wedge at the rim bead and give a medimum tap, move 3" and repeat for about 18" and the bead will pop off the wheel, then do the back side the same way.
It first doesn't appear that your doing any thing with the wedge but after the thrid whack, you'll see a large movement in the bead away from the rim steel. That's why you don't need to smack it hard. Use some 25% dish soap/water if you need too.
I use a couple dulled 7/8" x 24" crow bars to remove/install the tire. I can take a tire off, patch a tube and reinstall in a hour.
