I can vouch for that on using a 1/2 ton on a trailer with a tractor out back. But I'll go you one better I only have a 4.3 V6 in mine. Truck and trailer scale between 12000 and 12500. I run about 50 to 55 and manage to get about 15mpg. But, I really have to watch my distances for stopping, and make absolutely sure I have the load balanced. But as mentioned before I am going to get a bigger truck and a heavier gooseneck trailer. (Currently a bumper pull.)
