I would say it depends on what weight class you were planning on pulling in. The M can be built up to be a strong puller in a lighter class than the U could. My dad used to pull one of each, an M in the 4500 lb. class and a U in the 7500 class. The only other piece of advice I could think to pass along was just how wide of a selection of performance parts were available for the Moline. I know of several places that build them for M's, they may do them for other makes but I don't pull so would never have asked. Maybe these other guys can help you with that.
