I got rid of mine for the same reasons above. Sometimes the would apply when you don't want them too! Electric are the way to go, with a relay they can be wired to your brake lites. Add a reostat and you can adjust just how hard or soft you want them to apply. Keeps wheels from locking when trailer empty or light loads good luck!
