There is no difference in the exhaust smoke if not mixed heavy. At approx 10% mix, there would be very little effect as motor oil would be approx a No4 fuel oil when comparring viscosity and engines designed for No4 thru No6 fuel oil don't smoke excessive under normal use.

Whether it's a DI or IDI engine design would have little effect under a light oil mix. Computerized controls would have no bearing on the mixed oil.

A interesting note: Cummins uses the same method in the OTR engines today and have been for a few years as that's how they get 100k miles between oil changes. They take sump oil and "direct" inject it into the engine then use a small make-up oil tank to replace what was exchanged.
