Many factors at play and here are only a few: 1. Look at the value of the dollar on the world market. 2. OPEC used to believe the Saudi's, when they said that if OPEC cut production, Saudi Arabia would increase theirs.....truth is Saudi isn't setting on the oil they claim to have. 3. Gov't regulation in this country, and the fact that enivronmentalists won't let us harvest our own oil (even though very little habitat is distrubed with today's technology). 4. We as a nation are very dependant on oil, the life blood of our economy, how many oil companies don't know that. Moreover, why should they not use that to their advantage?
