If 'rice' coal is available in your area, it may be a better alternative. Around here, price per pound is comperable to wood pellets. However the BTU per pound is much higher. Operation is about the same effort as a wood pellets. I work with 2 people who switched from Propane to this type of coal stove. Their annual heating cost went from $4000 to $700 and they are actually warm. I am switching from heating with oil to coal this comming summer. Good luck.
