: Probably not common, but a lot of us in central Indiana have gone to 8 volt batteries to promote starting M's and Super M's in cold weather. Makes a BIG difference even in warm weather if the engines have been souped up with oversize sleeves and pistons or step-head pistons for more compression. We've had good success for 15 to 20 years this way. No problems.
I agree with John. It never has hurt the started and it helps out starting them a lot better. Especeially where it is cold and you need to do chores with it in the winter time.
