I prefer purely boiled. And a rich amber color with caramel flavor from cooking the sugar,maple and wood smoke flavor. The stuff that is almost clear and is only sweet without flavor. As previously stated, may as well purchase the real imitation maple flavored mystery goo. Boiling time in the pan varies.Some people just keep adding sap and occasionally take off a large batch of dark syrup. Blah, my grandfather had that habit. "Didn't have time to keep taking off batches" so he said. The syrup tasted "burned".
