They save a lot of time if the stud is in a place where you can't swing a vise grip around the full circle, as in removing studs from a block. You can put an extension on it so the ratchet or breaker bar is above everything that gets in the way. Mine's a Craftsman and it seems like it doesn't want to grip the studs that are larger diameter but works almost every time on 7/16 or smaller.
The serrations or splines are wearing smooth on mine and I feel it's kind of premature for no more than I've used it. I'm thinking a better brand will last longer. Jim
