If you have no pressure you have to have a stuck (open) pressure relief valve somewhere. That is just about the only thing I can think of that can cause that sort of thing. Possibly the addition of the extra fluid alleviated any cavitation you may have been having and allowed the pressure to spike to normal levels further sticking an already stuck open relief valve. Off of the top of my head that is the only thing that makes sense.
