There are weed control products that are labeled safe to use on sweet corn. the others can hurt the plants and maybe the consumer. In the 60's we would seed rye in the fall and lots of manure. In the spring we would plow down the rye the day it was knee high and before it headed. Worked the seed bed good aand planted.
