Are these cars by chance salvage vehicles? They cannot be titled for driving as is.
In Michigan if you buy a titled vehicle, and the previous owner signs off on the back of title, properly, you are allowed to drive the car from point of purchase with title in hand, to your home without license plate. Of course, you have to do a title transfer and get proper plate before driving it elsewhere. That would include properly insurance for the vehicle, as you can't get license plate without.
