Fred, Sounds like your problem is the switch on the starter. The Dexta, like the Fordson Major through to the Super Major had a manually engaged starter pinion. When the pinion was fully engaged, the starter lever engaged a switch on the front of its houseing which switched on the solenoid. The switch should have two wires into it, one live,from the ignition switch, the other to the small terminal on the solonoid which takes the current into the solenoid coil then to earth. You may need to replace the ignition switch to get things to operate as they should. Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year. At least our hobby should not suffer with Y2K problems :) Brian
