Is the "impulse" working... does the mag "snap" twice a revolution?
This "impulse" action makes the magnet move quickly past the polepieces, inducing a good current in the coil, making for a hot spark.
If the impulse IS working, other problems could be oxidized points, not making good contact to ground the coil when they're closed, a shorted condensor, or a failed coil.
