Stan, I don't know about leaving stuff like that plugged in when you're not around. Might be the safest thing in the world. I'm one of those kind of guys that don't like leaving stuff plugged in when not in the barn, tool sheds, stuff like that. And what temp triggers it? Is up to you. Not trying to scare you, but you asked the question. My answer...not leaving plugged in where I'm likely to forget or not see for a day or few. If its a barn cat, you got hay, it gets cold or cool, cat will do just fine. And besides, if the cat's sleeping in the hay, and a mouse makes the mistake, a dream come true for the cat, right? Your wife meant well though, so don't make her mad and find yourself sleepin in the barn with the cat...you in the hay, the cat in the bed.
