Your right Burrhead, we are talking about "sealing" a cracked block. I have to admit that I have never tried to weld a block either. Just kind of got carried away trying to make others less experienced than yourself, aware of the need for pre and postheat in general terms of welding cast iron or cast steel.I think it`s also important to note that if the block, or head, or whatever, happens to be aluminum, you can almost gaurantee that you won`t get an acceptable weld without preheating to about 500 degrees F, or when spit bounces off in little balls. All in all it seems to me that if heating is good for strength type welds, maybe it would lessen the chance for inclusions or pin hole leaks. Can`t argue with your success though. I truly don`t mean to offend anyone, I`m just hear to learn some, share some, and have a good time.
