Best method kind of depends on the carb. Aluminum bodied carbs are more fragile, but don't rust and seem to clean up ok with the various carb cleaners on the market. Cast iron carbs may have rusted passages and will require mechanical cleaning with drill bits, wires, etc. to clean. Basically all of the passages, jets, etc. in the carb have to be totally clean for it to work right. However you do it is ok as long as you don't damage the carb. I use copper wires on alum carbs so as not to damage them. soaking a cast iron carb overnight and blowing it out with an air hose may not get the job done, good luck, paul
