Like the others said. What you need to look for is the active ingredient on the label. Corn Gluten should be listed as a inactive ingredient and won't do a thing to the weeds except make them smell funny.
Yes Preen is spendy much more than the sum of it's parts.
Triflurian is the active ingredient but it needs to be applied at a proper rate which is about a quart to the acre (an acre is 43560 sq ft). You should be able to get it as Treflan or tri-4 at a local elevator or someplace like that. If memory serves me it isn't a restricted chemical so you should be able to purchase it without a license. Smallest container it will come in is a 2.5 gal jug of concentrate which will last you for quite a while unless you need to treat multiple acres. Don't overapply unless you don't want grass to grow for 10 to 20 years.
