In a word, no. If it's DEAD CALM, and you don't mind emptying after every pass, and then having to rake to get the residue anyway, they're only a little worse than doing it by hand. I haven't tried one yet, but I think a leaf-sucker is the least hassle of all the methods I've seen listed. I have a half baked idea to build one out of a 8 HP B&S engine I have laying around, and my 4x8 utility trailer. Should give me enough power to pick up slightly damp leaves (keeps the dust down) and not have to empty it every time I turn around. Just haven't figured out what to use for the blower/chopper part yet. Looking around for a clapped-out two stage snow blower as a first thought. I would really like to be able to add chopped leaves to my composting system...
