When I was younger and dumber (well at least younger), I always wanted to get there faster than any tractor would go. When I was about 12 or 13 I was pulling a big rack of hay with my uncles old 9N Ford on a dirt road going down hill. I pushed in on the clutch so the tractor would coast faster (my Dad had always told me never to do that). I got to going faster but the road was rough and I didn’t weigh enough so I would bounce and the clutch would engage. I got the bright Idea to put it in neutral (my dad had also issued warnings about that) well now I really got to going down this long hill. The rack begin to whip and tried to pass the tractor. I couldn’t get the tractor back into gear. I knew that if I touched the brakes I couldn’t get them both on equally and my goose would be cooked. I was steering to try and keep the tractor in front of the rack. I was going all over the road and there was a narrow bridge at the bottom of the hill with ditches on either side. The good Lord must have had time that day to be looking out for fools. I made it through the bridge and never told my Dad: but you can bet I never done that again.
