A five gallon bucket of feed will weigh approximately 30 pounds +or- 2 pounds.(Depends upon the fineness of grind and/or pelleted. Normal feeding recommendations (for grain)say to feed 1 lb/hundred pounds of body weight, so you should be feeding them around 2.5-3.5 pounds per head per day. Calves will consume roughly 2.5-3% of their body weight per day of total ration (including hay). Your calves will eat a total then of around 7.5 pounds of total dry matter per day. Most people tend to over-feed grain. Let your roughage work for you.......feed it free choice and go sparingly on the grain. You'll be dollars ahead.
