I have been tracking pig prices since 1968 when I started in the industry and they are the same now as then. What with high grain prices, imminent closing of the biggest slaughter plant and the high (for us) Canadian dollar, come spring there isn't going to be much left of an Ontario hog industry. Pork Producer's Marketing board(selling agent only, no price setting function) laid off one-third of their staff and stopped reporting prices a few weeks ago. I am lucky enough to have my debts paid but I still miss the sows, but if I still had them, I honestly don't know what I'd do.
