Although it (would, could, and will work)One problem is the chimney might not be large enough for both heating systems to be operating at the same time. The metal chimney's that are manufactured today are safe and really not that expensive to purchase, CSA or UL, ULC approved. Might just as well make it safe and peace of mind.
