Being a shiny, new auto mechanic about nine years ago I was challenged to revive an old tractor. I think an Allis, but not for sure. Two tractor guys looked at it, rebuilt carb, still no run. To shorten story, rewired the dash, looked like mouse nest in wiring, to make spark. Float adjusted, they had it wedged shut, now it had fuel. It started easy and rained all kinds of junk out of the exhaust. decided to take a victory ride. Why does this thing pull to the right every time I hit the brakes? Didn't know about individual brakes at that time. Went down a road and up a small hill. As I came over the hill I could see a lake, the hill was a dam with a service road at the top. Not wanting to drive a tractor on a dam with no experience,(I wasn't completely stupid), I stopped on the slope. I decided to go to the top and make a u-turn. took my foot off the brake and let out the clutch. I'm suddenly staring at the sky!! I didn't even think when I did it. Hit the clutch hard and the front end came back down hard. I sat there, tractor humming quietly and my heart beating so hard I thought a helicopter was landing! It didn't rear that high but with the slope I was on, she was almost perfectly verticle. I pushed the clutch and let her roll down the hill backwards, turned around at the bottom and drove back to the house with a whole new respect for equiptment.

Some of them only bring their noses down out of the air long enough to look down them anyway. If you are like me you are only doing this old tractor stuff because you enjoy it. You
