As far as as chain type, get the cleated ladder type with the crossover links that hold the ladder cross chains on the tire tread. I took the web advice at Tirechains.com for chains used in icey conditions and I regret it because they recommended straight cleated ladder chains and now I have to futz around to get the chains on top of the tire cleats. I don"t think a box blade is good for plowing snow. Box blades are made for leveling.I never tried one but I use a back blade set at a the biggest angle and the snows moves off the blade to the side of the drive way. With a box blade the snow will just pile up in the box. Then what do you do with it? I also made a special edge made out of three inch pipe welded to a 3/8" plate( looks like -o ). The 1.5" radius helps keep the blade from tearing out great globs of gravel.
