Stan, from your last post.The fuel leakage was probably from over chokeing.The inside of manifold was wet with raw fuel and it runs down and out.This happens on most updraft carbs,also when you run and shut off a cold engine it will drip.Float adjusting will not help this.Dont be in a hurry to tweak the float,its probably ok the way it is.
