I went with my younger brother down to Independence MO today to get a Farmall M that he bought. The engine is a 1949 and stuck, the rest of it is 1940 :-) The IH widefront has a cobbled together steering arm, but is otherwise in good shape with no other cracks or welds. It has two different front hubs too, one is the non-adjustable clamp style, and the other is the 3-bolt adjustable type.
