On your other post you wondered where they were getting the disease from and I didn't see the most common culprit mentioned. That would be other birds - particularly starlings, house sparrows, red finches and any others that frequent the feeding area. About all that can be done for that is to better enclose it. This is why most poultry and hogs are kept inside. The 1918 flu is pretty much narrowed down to troops on the Western Front raising hogs that got a bad type of bird flu, it mutated in the hogs and got passed back to birds which then flew it all over the world. One of the things that scares me about flu is that the 1918 flue hit here in Kansas and Boston about mid-September and that's about a month before we usually have the shots available.
