It sounds like ignition problem to me. Make sure that spark is not jumpimg from ignition wires or coil tower. You can check it in the dark. If you have points type distributor I would check the condenser. Also make sure the coil wire is good and check the coil and cap for corrosion as well. TO check the condenser you need a digital volt meter. Set the meter in the ohms range,try all ranges,touch the lead and the case of the condeser, do it until you get the meter to read with different ohms ranges.Then revers the leads it should read again.The value is not important, but the condeser should act the same way when you revers the leads. It not you found your problem.
