I have used this multiple times and it always works! Use a plunger type oil can and a piece of rubber hose to make a mini adapter. Pull the oil pressure sending connection out of the block, and insert the hose end (forcing the rubber into the threads) put engine oil in the can and pump it full. It might take several cans. When full, it will feel different and require more pressure to pump. I agree the use of both a gauge, and a light are best practice. Go for it. JimN
