I usually just spray oven cleaner inside the tank, then take it to the car wash and wash it out good. When its dry,then put a coat of Red Cote inside the tank. Of course, the tank is off of the tractor. I tried cleaning the tanks when on the tractor and it never failed, there was all ways some crud left in the tank, so just remove the tanks now, much quicker and a better job done.
