Part of the problem is when people build in these areas, they are only allowed to clear up to 100 ft from there houses to the brush line. Thanks to the tree hugger group no more area can be cleaned beyond that, because there may be a chance of disturbing a bird, or a rat. The foresty dept wants to do controled burns, but these same groups have enough influnce in the state gov. to stop it. Then there are the people who plant trees right next to there houses and wonder why there house burned. Then there is the fire it's self. When a 80 mi hr wind is pushing a fire there isn't much to stop it, this is when it jumps 1/4 mi or more at a time from cinders as big as golf balls flying through the air.
