I had a older model belarus 250 years ago. When the batteries went bad I replaced the 2-6v batteries with 1-12v battery. I had problems getting it to crank after that. Since I had already bought the 12v battery and did not want to waste the money I resorted to pulling the compression release lever and let the motor start spinning; then pushing the lever in for the motor to crank.
That was back when I was young and dumb; but hey it worked.
