Hardware store steel is always high.You can get 20 feet from a steel yard for the same money.I found the same problem with buying black steel pipe in a wood working store for clamps.Their price was 3X home Depot a 1/4 mile away.I stock up on steel, buying from a steel yard .They cut the 20 ft lengths in half at no charge for easy trucking in a pickup.
