Another item to look at is casting shrinkage. Take the old intake gasket and lay it back on the alignment pins of the heads. If you use it as a mask and spray a bright colored paint onto the intake ports you will see how much extra metal is blocking your engine's breathing.
You can use an air grinder to remove the painted metal from the intake ports and improve overall engine performance. It's the layman's style of "porting" an engine.
